Help Project 22 support Jamaica's hurricane relief programme

Donation protected
Hi everyone,

We are the Townsend sisters, Naomi (9) and Emily (6), two sisters who attend Regina Coeli Catholic Primary School in Croydon, South London. We’ve been watching the news about Hurricane Melissa in Jamaica, and it has made us really sad. It is the strongest hurricane ever and so many families in Manchester parish have lost so much. As proud Brownies we both took a pleaded which said, 'I promise that I will do my best, to be true to myself and develop my beliefs, to serve the King and my community, to help other people and to keep the (Brownie) Guide. This why when we heard about how bad this hurricane is we immediate wanted to do something to help the people of Jamaica.

That’s why we’re bringing back our project called Project 22. Together, we’re going to walk 22 kilometres. We chose 22 because it’s special to us, and it’s a big challenge that shows we’re serious about helping. It won’t be easy (especially for Emily who doesn’t really like!), but we’re going to keep going because people in Jamaica need our support.

Why we’re raising money

Our family is from Jamaica, and we have relatives and friends in the areas that were hit hard. We want to help the community in Manchester parish who are struggling to get by after the storm.

We are aiming to raise £3,000 in total:
• £2,200 will be donated directly to the Manchester Chapter of the Jamaica Red Cross to support their relief work.
• The rest will be used to buy food and essentials here in the UK, which we’ll pack into at least two barrels and ship directly to Manchester so families can have the basics they need.

How we’ll keep it honest!

We promise to share regular updates and post receipts for all the money we spend – from the donation to the Red Cross to the shopping for food and the shipping costs. We want everyone to feel confident that your donations are being used exactly as we’ve said, and we’re also learning how important accountability is when managing charitable funds.

How you can help
• Donate: Every pound takes us closer to our target.
• Share: Tell your friends and family about our 22km walk.
• Cheer us on: 22km is a lot for two little girls, but your support will keep us going!

We believe you’re never too small to make a big difference. Thank you for helping us walk for Jamaica.

Love,
Naomi & Emily
