Help Producer Madyson Fair find stability post-Helene

Dear fellow newsies and friends of newsies (and kind strangers, as well),

My name is Katie Killen. I'm the morning Co-Anchor at WLOS-TV, the ABC affiliate in Asheville, NC. Let me tell you about our morning producer, Maydson Fair. Mady started at WLOS-TV this summer and has impressed a lot of our morning team with her willingness to learn, her sunny disposition, and her overall positivity. Working overnights isn't for the faint of heart. Mady has jumped right in feet first. When Hurricane Helene hit on September 27th, she was left homeless and car-less. She shared an apartment with others on Gashes Creek Road in Asheville. It's an area hit especially hard by Helene. Additionally, when water did return to Asheville, the pipes burst inside the apartment, further destroying what was left of her belongings. The building is so badly damaged that it is set to be demolished. Mady initially spent several nights at the station before bunking with a fellow producer for a couple of nights. She recently found a basement apartment to rent, but she is extremely low on funds. The rent is more expensive than her original pre-Helene rent. It's very hard to find affordable, livable space in Western North Carolina right now, so she had very little choice. She is also waiting to see what insurance will cover for her car. Mady is currently borrowing her sister's vehicle while she waits.

Even though she was homeless and without a car, Mady didn't miss a day of work on the morning show. In fact, it took several weeks before those of us at News 13 understood the full scope of what she's been dealing with. She hasn't complained. She's barely spoken about her dire situation. She's done the work of a journalist, knowing it's her job to get important information out there every day.

Here's the ask: let's raise some money to give Madyson a cushion for a couple of months. Let's help her get back on her feet while she sorts out her car insurance. Let's help her save a little, so she has some savings after paying rent every month.
