Help Priya Get Urgent Surgery for Her Injury

Donation protected
Hello dear family and friends!

After exploring options, we have decided to make a GoFundMe for Priya, who was recently injured in her backyard. To start, we would like to share with you some context around the family's situation. Please have grace with us and know that this information we are sharing is personal and only being shared so that you all may know the reason we are reaching out for your help.

In July of 2023, John was let go from his position at a level one trauma center - which he has worked at for nearly 12 years. The company completely eliminated his position and failed to offer an alternative position, leaving John devastated and unemployed. After a long unemployment and much hardship, most of the money the family had been saving over the years was put toward keeping the mortgage paid, food on the table, and any other necessities the family needed. As I'm sure we all know, life is expensive as is, and being unemployed can do a lot of damage to a family's financial security. As funds grew smaller and smaller, John finally found a position - at a much lower rate than before - to hopefully begin saving again.

Now in a position where the family needed to keep expenses low, Priya - the family’s loving and energetic dog - sustained a serious injury. If you don't know Priya, she is a wonder pup. She lovingly shares space with a family of 5, as well as another dog and two cats. Being a 3 year old pit/boxer/lab mix, Priya is full of life, and very loyal to her family. On the 16th of July, Priya was let out into the backyard, where she proceeded to attend to her doggy duties: chasing squirrels and scanning the perimeter for any intruders. It was during her shift as watchdog that she was overcome with a fit of zoomies. Priya took off running up a hill like a bullet, and then came down limping. The family immediately noticed that she was only able to bear weight on three of her four legs. Fearing she may have injured herself severely, they took her to the vet at their earliest convenience.

It was there, on July 25th, that the family confirmed with a medical professional that Priya had completely torn her CCL. The cruciate ligament, also known as the cranial cruciate ligament (CCL), is a connective tissue in the knee that connects and stabilizes the lower leg to the upper leg. A complete tear like this results in partial or complete joint instability, pain, and immobility. It is also possible that in favoring her non-injured legs due to the pain, she will tear her other leg. That said, Priya has been in extreme pain daily and is in urgent need of a TPLO surgery. TPLO, or tibial-plateau-leveling osteotomy, is a surgery performed on dogs to stabilize the stifle joint after ruptures of the cranial cruciate ligament, and involves making a curved cut in the tibia bone from front to back in order to rotate the top section of the tibia backward until the angle between the tibia and femur is deemed appropriately level. This is a 45 minute procedure and the family has been quoted a total of $4,165 - which includes tax and the required blood work on the day of surgery. For full transparency, we have attached a photo of the medical quote from Priya's vet with a full breakdown of the procedure's cost.

With all of the information laid out, we are reaching out to all of our loved ones for support. If you are in a position to do so, we are asking for donations to help us get Priya the surgery and help she needs. We know that times are tough, but even a small donation of $1-$5 from each of our friends and family can go a really long way. We ask that you help in any way that you can - even if it's just helping us to spread word by sharing this Gofundme. If you are looking to avoid any taxes, feel free to message John French directly to seek out an alternative. Please know that we are grateful for each and everyone one of you, and we will make sure to update you all on Priya's recovery so that you can see what your help has accomplished for this beautiful pup. Thank you for taking the time to read this and support us in this difficult time.

Respectfully submitted on behalf of the French family,

Hailey Sky
