HELP PRINT TRAINS MAG #7, A TRANSSEXUAL ARTS PUBLICATION

Hi! My name is Frances and I'm the founder, editor, and sole worker behind Trains Magazine. It is an annual print publication of art and words by transsexual artists and writers. It is entirely independent, ad-free, self-published, and run out of my bedroom in San Francisco.

I'm raising funds to help with printing costs for our next issue, the seventh to date. Projected printing costs, excluding transportation and distribution, totals around $5k.

Our last issue saw a transition from risograph to CMYK printing—a significant cost-jump that I find important to showcasing the depth of nuance in our contributor's work.

In order to be able to print at the appropriate quality, compensate our artists, and (at minimum) break even financially, we'll need around $5k in addition to the sales we made from the last issue.

As it currently stands, Trains is not profitable, in fact it often finds me in the negative at the end of each release. This financial cushion will allow me to get the (very exciting) forthcoming issue to print and thus into your hands.

Seldom do we get to see ourselves, our own voices and work, represented by and through other transsexuals outside of capitalist, careerist agendas. We're left to settle for sell-out publications like Them Magazine and legacy media, constantly misrepresenting and commodifying us.

Trains is a first-of-its-kind publication, attempting a broad platform for transsexuals specifically, free from corporate greed and status seeking.

This project is a labor of love, and money is the unfortunate determining factor in it coming to life.
