Help Print the Next Edition of Long Shore Drift

Donation protected
Our names are Greta Nelson and Ella Sampou and we are the co-editors of Long Shore Drift, a Cape Cod local literary and arts magazine. We are asking for your help to fund our next edition of printing to spread local voices and reclaim the cultural narrative of the Cape.

Who are we?
Long Shore Drift is a literary arts magazine whose mission is to reclaim the cultural narrative of Cape Cod for the people who call it home. We showcase art and writing of all genres from local creatives, and bind these stories into a beautiful little book that can be handed from person to person.

Longshore drift is a geomorphological process whereby beaches grow, shrink and shift as sand gets pulled down the shore by wave action. We hope this magazine can be a place of resistance to the scouring away of our shoreline home but also a place to settle and come together in the sunlight, on soft sand.

Our first addition prompt asked: What does it feel like to love a place that cannot support you? And your second volume asks: Describe to us your secret communities and micro-identities. How does your hidden identity knit this place together, even if you do not feel you belong?

Why do we need this project?
So many folks struggle to live and find community in this place year round.
The cultural narrative of Cape Cod, one of Kennedy’s and clam shacks, undermines the diverse web of cultures and backgrounds that truly exist here. The Cape contains multitudes and always has. Why don’t our cultural spaces express that? Why don’t our housing policies and job opportunities provide for such diversity in income, background and knowledge? While data can be powerful, it rarely makes change and yet stories do. So we are collecting stories. See our instagram page linked below for a showcase of some of our artists work.

What will we do with your money?
  • Fund printing costs and editing tools.
What we primarily need is help with printing costs. In a time consumed by the digital, we value the texture of a page. For our first addition, we screen printed our covers on Ella’s dining table, and printed our copy at Staples and on workplace copy machines. We could only manage about 80 copies with such a time consuming process. Your gift will help us send our artists' work to a local printing press, printing more copies and spreading work farther. Additionally, we aim to invest in editing tools such as Adobe Illustrator to support us editors in compiling the project more efficiently.

A $5 to $10 donation goes a long way when the community pitches in.

Thanks so much for your consideration.
