Help Print Jerk's May Issue, Save Student Print Journalism!

Jerk Magazine has proudly served the Syracuse University community since 2003. The first of its kind, for over 20 years, Jerk has set an unparalleled standard for campus magazines. In our efforts to "jerk" people out of their apathy, we have created a distinctive voice that is passionate and uncompromising, coupled with the visually arresting work of student artists. In each print issue, Jerk confronts controversial political and social issues that affect the student body and the community that they live and work in. Jerk aims to increase student knowledge and activism, diversify campus dialogue, and encourage a relationship between SU students and the Syracuse community.
Part of our commitment to inform the student body includes producing two print issues per semester. In a digital era where print magazines and local journalism are threatened daily, we believe in maintaining our tradition of printing student work and art. For our staff writers, illustrators, photographers, and designers, holding a physical copy of their work is an invaluable experience that can't compare with a computer screen. For our readers, looking around campus for the latest copy of Jerk is an exciting experience that allows them to connect to the content beyond just reading. After 20 years, our little print mag has become a staple of the community and a representation of the enormous talent SU students bring to the table.
This semester, for the first time ever, the Student Association denied our printing budget. Our long-held tradition of printing two issues is now threatened, as we will not be able to print our end-of-the-year May issue. After significantly cutting down the number of copies we print, we still were not able to convince the board that our magazine holds value and meaning beyond simple educational purposes. But we believe in the power of community, which is why we are asking you (yes, you!) to help us save our little mag and, in a larger sense, student print journalism.
We are looking to raise enough funds to print 250 copies of our May issue. Any amount helps and is highly (highly) appreciated! If you can't donate, spreading the word also helps us out!
Thank you for your help and continued support.
xoxo,
The Jerk Team :)
