Help Princeling Get His Legs back

Tax deductible
Here’s the story all in one place:
Princeling aka Chuggz randomly wasn’t able to use his rear legs Saturday evening. We got him into the ER vet where we were given a couple of possible situations, but the only way to definitively find out was an MRI… with all of the things leading up to an MRI, the MRI itself, and then the surgery that would likely be needed once we got the official diagnosis, it would be $13,000-$15,000. We ended up electing to go the route of kennel rest and meds and talking to our vet Monday. We’ve been able to express his bladder, but we have not been able to get him to poop, so we were told to allow movement where I was keeping him completely restricted to try to get his bowels moving. (That is when I took this video this morning.)

Today (Monday), we went to our regular vet where they did X-rays, bloodwork, and made sure that he still had his deep pain receptors because if he loses that, he is officially paralyzed. He still can feel pain but only when it’s a very, very, very bad pain. He cannot feel when somebody touches or pets his rear leg. Bloodwork looks good. X-rays showed a spot where there was a little less space between the discs… it’s in the middle back, which is conclusive with the symptoms that we’re seeing. Meaning that he lost control of his bladder and cannot pee, but he can poop. However, he doesn’t really feel the need for it, but when it presses up against his butthole, he feels that and can get it out. He has finally pooped. We were given more medication because he is not sedated enough at this point in time and keeps trying to move himself around, and we need to have absolutely zero movement other than us supporting his rear end so that he can walk around a little bit to get his bowels moving.

For now, we are going to continue on the path of kennel rest, but we are looking into a better guess on pricing for an MRI and surgery because it’s the best chance of him getting full movement back.

Pitsquad is keeping him under their wing and trying to do whatever is best to help get him whatever is best.
