Support Wildlife Rangers & Save Species

Donation protected
WHO WE ARE:

Wild Response’s mission is to train, advise, and assist rangers worldwide in the fight against the illegal wildlife trade by deploying new techniques and technologies to maximize their impact on the ground. We want to ensure that endangered species have a place on our planet.

 THE PROBLEM:

In the last decade, there has been a sharp increase in wildlife crime and poaching.  In South Africa, there was a 9000% increase in Rhino poaching from 2007 to 2014. In a study on Elephant poaching across the African continent, it came to light that over 100,000 African Elephants were poached in 2010-2012 alone. This is just a glimpse at the overall problem. Worldwide, thousands of species are at risk and millions of animals are either killed or captured illegally every year. These species are being decimated for their hides, scales, fins, and tusks.  There is a massive international black market worth an estimated $23 billion USD annually, fueled by dedicated, well-equipped and connected international criminal syndicates. These criminal networks are wide-spread and wildlife rangers are risking their lives every day. On average over 100 rangers are killed while performing their duties each year.  In a 2018 survey by World Wildlife Fund, one in seven rangers surveyed had been seriously injured while working and only 15% had received any first-aid training in the previous year.

HOW WE HELP:

Wild response has created a field-tested training curriculum to increase the capabilities of the wildlife rangers on the frontlines protecting our most critically endangered species.  We work with rangers around the world, providing basic and advanced training on needed skills including effective field first-aid as well as new technologies such as SMART software which can exponentially expand the effectiveness of rangers in the field.  In addition to high-level training, Wild Response provides boxes of gear to rangers in the field consisting of boots, multi-tool, headlamp, medical pouch, hydration kit, watch, belt, and uniform tops/bottoms to make sure they are not going into the field under-equipped.

WHY WE ARE RAISING FUNDS:

While we have trainers, a developed curriculum and conservation groups that we have connected within Southeast Asia and Africa, we cannot act without your help. Currently, we have been funding all of our curriculum development, web presence, marketing, and on groundwork ourselves and we are at the limits of what we can effectively do unless we can raise additional funding.  Please join us in the fight to protect our vanishing wilds.  Help us put an end to the extinction that is happening around us as we speak.
We have set our initial funding goal at $50,000 which will help fund Wild Response for the first quarter of 2020.  These funds will enable us to conduct 2 one-month field training cycles, resulting in 40 wildlife rangers trained and equipped, ready to get out in the field protecting their local endangered species.  In addition to these first two training cycles of 2020, this initial funding will help to cover back-office costs and overhead such as website, ranger gear for future training cycles, and creation of training materials used in classroom and field training for the rangers.
We are a small team and so we keep our overhead costs low, striving to focus our donations where they can have the most impact – more training classes and better gear for the rangers fighting in the field. Any additional funds raised goes towards additional training cycles and more rangers on the ground getting aid.

HOW YOU CAN HELP:

Please help Wild Response have a successful start for 2020 by donating, sharing the GoFundMe and website through social media, and asking your friends and family to take part as well during this end of year holiday drive!  Any and all donations you can spare are extremely helpful to our mission!!  Whether it is a small $5 one-time donation, or a larger corporate donation, this can only happen by all of us working together.  We appreciate each and every one of you!  Please help us to enable our dream that we have been working our way towards. We want to do great things in this world and it starts with a grassroots campaign like this Go Fund Me!

 Wild Response’s Founders:

Wild Response’s founders are Kevin Garrad and Jeff Mazziotta.  Kevin and Jeff served in the U.S. Army and fought in the Iraq war together. Upon finishing his time in service, Jeff went on to become a technical trainer for the U.S. Army specialized in landmine clearance, later bringing that skill to the NGO world as a technical field manager, in charge of the day to day operations and training of a major humanitarian demining program in Angola as well as stints in Cambodia. Kevin continued his career in the U.S. Army, medically retiring from the Special Forces due to combat injuries after a 16-year military career. Upon retiring, Kevin found himself in the NGO world as well, dedicating himself to his greatest passion: Wildlife conservation.  Kevin has been a team leader on the frontlines for a major anti-poaching NGO as well as the head anti-poaching instructor for one of Africa’s premier ranger academies.
