Help Prevent Grandma's Foreclosure Crisis
Donation protected
Hello. My name is Kathy. My family is in a really bad position. My grandmother is losing her house due to a reverse mortgage and the house is in foreclosure. She was paying everything fine until she couldn’t pay their required flood insurance. Then they immediately started paying the taxes and started foreclosure. She lives next to a little creek that is about 30ft below her yard and never has more than an inch or two of water. In her almost 60 years there, she has never flooded, not even her yard. She will be 95 in July and wants nothing more than to stay in her home. The only way to make her dream come true is to pay off the reverse mortgage (pic attached). She is very capable of living on her own (except for poor vision, but she knows her home and manages fine there). I live 4 miles away and help her with anything she needs help with. This woman worked multiple jobs until she was almost 88. She has always given to everyone, including strangers, mailmen, etc. She always gave and gave. She gave her whole life to her family, yet her life was filled with trauma and abuse. My mother, her daughter, committed suicide 2 years ago. Her son is schizophrenic and lives in a psychiatric nursing home. There is one other grandchild who is also suffering from schizophrenia and lives in state housing for such. This leaves me. I don’t have the funds to save her house, nor am I capable of moving her in with me for numerous reasons. She would be miserable as she’s very independent and wouldn’t function well with me. I also have to protect my own mental well-being with all this and all I’ve been through in this life with our family. She does not medically qualify as per her doctors as she has no medical needs. She still cares for herself, cooks and bakes daily, even pushes her garbage can to the curb. I read her mail, get her groceries, and do whatever she can’t. Between her life with her children, 2 husbands that did her wrong in life, and leaving her with only her monthly SS, she doesn’t have enough for the current rental market. If her home was paid off from the reverse mortgage, she would be able to get out of this foreclosure and wouldn’t be required to have this flood insurance that only they insisted upon. Even in this high real estate market, her home isn’t worth enough to sell and have a big profit from as today’s people would consider it a total rehab as everything is original and old. We don’t have much time left before it goes up for sheriff sale. I’m trying this as a last effort to keep her there. Many told me to start a GoFundMe and contact the news, so here I am. I do have her name on several income-based senior apartments, but the waits are long. If you can share this and donate, maybe if it reaches enough people and attention, I could pay this off and let her stay there in peace for whatever time she has left here. If anything is raised above this amount, I will use it for any potential future care if needed. Thank you and God bless.
