This is incredibly embarrassing to have to ask for at this stage in our lives. But I don't know what else to do at this point. We just received a 5-day eviction notice (May 9) and are behind $625 on our rent; the internet is past due as well as phone bills. I have personally been out of work for a little over 2 months now. It recently came to my attention that everywhere I had applied at for the last month and a half, my former employer was sabotaging when people would call for references.
To make a long story short, in January I began making complaints about a night shift lead at my job who was literally sleeping on the job and leaving me to cover everything by myself. When I began making complaints, they were largely ignored. Then I asked how to make an official complaint to HR and they said it "would be handled." Shortly after that, my hours were dropped from 40 to 24, and those 16 hours went to a different staff member. Under the guise of budget cuts, my hours went from 40 to 24 to 16 the following week, to 8 the following week, and then nothing scheduled for 2 weeks. What I was not aware of was that the person I was reporting was friends with the manager and had been doing this for over 2 years with no repercussions.
I was given unemployment, but it is only a mere $176 a week, and all I personally have been bringing in, and then my former employer tried to appeal it to get it taken away from me, which would have meant I would have to repay all of it. Thankfully, they lost the case, but it was at this point that I was able to discover what was going on. The manager inadvertently, under oath with a Wisconsin state judge, said he withheld hours from me in the hopes that I would quit. I have this in writing, so this led me to call some of the places that I had applied at and ask why I had been turned down. They said it was due to references not checking out. I explained my side of it, but they'd already filled the position, so there was nothing that could be done.
Aimee, due to physical issues, can only work 25 to 30 hours a week. At this point, I am applying everywhere, through every temp agency and staffing agency, and every Craigslist job I can find. I have a comic book collection that I've been dumping on eBay as fast as I can at half market value, but that takes time.
The short-term problem is even if we get the $625 covered, we still have another $1200 coming up for next month's rent, a total of $200 each in phone bills which I definitely need to keep on or my ability to apply for jobs is done. And then there's the internet which also is extremely important for me to keep applying for jobs.
This has triggered massive anxiety attacks and has been wreaking havoc with my bipolar depression, and like I say, this is embarrassing, but I really just do not know what to do at this point and any little bit would help. If I can get something to the landlord that will give me a stay of execution, so to speak.
I've included a photo of the eviction notice as well as a posting of some of my eBay listings to show that this is happening, and a photo showing this former boss, under oath, admitted to withholding hours he could have given me because he wanted me gone. His commentary about not liking my tone would be hilarious if it wasn't so stressful.
