In 2015, Presley was two years old. She was diagnosed with pediatric ependymoma, which is a fancy way of saying she had a massive brain tumor. She endured three surgeries, several rounds of chemo and radiation, and months in the hospital. On September 17, 2016, she was declared cancer-free. Since then, she has had regular check-ups and scans.
Earlier in 2023, she had surgery on her hip, a long-term result of atrophy to her right side as a result of the tumor. While she was recovering, her mom (Christine) noticed a large lump on her head, near her scar, and took her to All Children's Hospital where she was diagnosed with a high-grade sarcoma. Children whose little bodies have to fight cancer sometimes develop secondary cancers like this one.
All Children's did some additional imaging studies and found that Presley has nodules in her lungs. They could be nothing, or they could mean that the cancer has spread. As of this writing on 9/11/23, we are awaiting biopsy results.
Surgery to remove the sarcoma will be extensive. She needs a plate put in her skull and will require skin grafts. She will be in the ICU for 3-5 days, and in the hospital for about two weeks. If the biopsy is negative, surgery will take place on 9/18. If it is positive, she will have to start chemo first.
Presley's parents, Wayne and Christine Scott, are fortunate to have good insurance but one or both of them will be out of work for the next few months while Presley recovers, plus they will need to take off work for all the appointments for physical therapy that she has not even had time to do since her last surgery.
Presley's youngest sibling, Aurora, has just started preschool but the aftercare is $200/week. The hope is to raise enough money that we can keep the Scott family afloat without having to disrupt the younger children's lives any more than absolutely necessary.
Please consider making a donation and/or sharing the fundraiser to help the Scotts on this long road to recovery.
