We are a family trying to preserve a land we have been on for 50 years. Legal fees dealing with people who are living illegally in RVs and catching up on some taxes left owing on the estate are threatening the loss of the property. This place is a safe place for 3 living generations to fall back on, where children can grow up where their mothers and their mothers' mothers played with their parents and grandparents. The back end of the property is an environmentally important wetland, and a lot of wildlife relies on this place. The property is among 5 top priority properties in Island County cited in a recent Whidbey News Times article, concerning grey water related to the people living in RVs. We have hired legal representation to remove them, but the process is long and expensive. The septic drainfield on the property has failed and needs replacement. We are not seeking funds for that, but the burden of back taxes and ongoing legal fees dealing with the squatters have been preventing us from the ability to resolve that issue.
