Help Preserve Oakland’s Ecology: My Eagle Scout Project
Donation protected
My name is Malcolm Amado, and after six years of hard work toward becoming an Eagle Scout, I'm excited to approach one of the final milestones. I am currently launching my Eagle Scout Project to support Friends of Sausal Creek, a nonprofit committed to improving our local ecosystems through educational and conservation efforts.
The Challenge:
The nursery at Friends of Sausal Creek is vital for cultivating native California plants and for restoring Oakland’s troubled watersheds. Unfortunately, the nursery’s large wooden potting tables are deteriorating. This poses a significant risk of spreading diseases like Sudden Oak Death, which could disastrously impact our forests and wildlife.
(this is one of the actual tables!)
My Solution:
My goal is to rebuild + renovate these tables by cleaning the salvageable frames and replacing the decayed tops with anti-microbial nursery bench-tops specially designed to inhibit fungal growth and ensure proper drainage. I will also refinish the frames to protect them from weathering and decay, ensuring a durable nursery infrastructure.
Goal:
I need to raise $2,300 to cover materials and supplies, enabling my fellow scouts and me to complete this important work.
How You Can Help:
Every contribution helps, no matter the size. Please consider making a donation --Your support will not only help me achieve my Eagle Scout rank but also significantly benefit the health of Oakland’s plant life and ecosystems.
