A magnificent 47-foot fin whale recently washed ashore in Anchorage, a rare and humbling reminder of Alaska’s deep connection to the ocean. While her passing is a loss, her story is far from over.
The Museum of Alaska is honored to preserve her legacy by harvesting her skeleton for display—creating an educational exhibit that will inspire generations of Alaskans and visitors from around the world. This incredible project will help share the story of these majestic creatures, the marine ecosystem, and the cultural significance of whales to Alaska Native communities.
Through this exhibit, she will continue to teach, awe, and remind us all of our responsibility to protect the ocean and its wildlife. Stay tuned as we embark on this journey to bring her story to life.
To get this done, we need your help! This endeavor needs funding in order to have the equipment for the logistical aspects of retrieving her from the mudflats.
