Hi Folks!
Since 1971 I've written, directed, photographed and produced over 50 films. I’ve had the unique opportunity to collaborate with many accomplished actors, filmmakers and musicians, including Mike & George Kuchar, Vong Phrommala, Billie-Marie, J.A. Deane, Bruce Ackley, Tom Nunn and many more talented artists I've met along my filmic way.
My first screenings were held in my bedroom in my hometown of Binghamton, N.Y. in 1971. Over the years my movies have been shown at The S.F. International Film Festival, the Castro Theater, Cannes, Ann Arbor, The No Nothing Theater, The Collective NYC, and countless other film showcases. My films represent a kind of folk art—a record of a unique and under-documented time in the history of independently made Super-8 and 16mm movies. I’m hoping for the work to be preserved and available for future generations to view (before vinegar syndrome destroys them all!).
I'm asking for your help. With your generous support I'll be able to make digital copies, create a website to view these Eye-Full Films, and finally produce a Blu-ray set of them all. If you have a favorite film you’d like to help preserve, please mention it with your donation.
Thanks for watching, David Michalak
1982 Once A Face, B+W, w/David Michalak
David Michalak’s hand-crafted films are inventive, provocative, compelling, and mechanically fascinating. He has developed a toolkit of necessary techniques to realize his vision in each film. He is prolific, visionary and has a stunningly wide range of concerns that populate his movies.
Michalak refers to his films as "a kind of folk art". We share this belief that original, complex art can be a part of a folk tradition, and still be uncompromisingly personal.
If you know David’s work, or simply believe in promoting fearless creativity, please generously support his films by making a donation to this worthy campaign. I know he’ll make the most of every hard-earned dollar contributed to support his work.
