The Found Footage Festival is on a mission to digitize our massive collection of VHS tapes (14,532 tapes! No doubles!) before it’s too late. As you may know, the lifespan of VHS is around 40 years—which means these tapes are on borrowed time. Every week that passes increases the risk of losing decades of weird, wonderful video history forever.

Digitizing this collection is no small task. It’s costly, slow, and equipment-intensive—each tape has to be transferred in real time using specialized gear. We’ve already invested thousands of dollars in digitizers, decks, and manpower, but there’s still a long way to go.

And these aren't movies that we're saving - it's the weird special interest promotional instructional public access home movie kind that are ending up in landfills as we speak.
