The Prem Education seva program began just before the 2020 world pandemic. Once all schools closed, the local kids who live in poverty started coming to the ashram 5 days a week. It was a way to get kids off the street and allow them to be loved and seen. The mission of the program was to support kids in a holistic way, giving them support for their studies, a monthly tuition/allowance for attending, clothing, school supplies, hygienic supplies and loving attention. The families we server are very poor and don’t have the means to offer things in the west we would consider basic needs.
Even after public schools reopened, the children kept coming to the program at the ashram because they were receiving something that they don’t get in their everyday lives. The local public education is very poor with overcrowded classrooms and limited resources. For example, they learn how to use computers from outdated books but haven’t actually touched a computer. There is a tremendous amount of pressure on exams and without tutors outside of the classroom, kids don’t have much hope in the steep competition. Here at the ashram we gave the kids a different style of learning that sparked their curiosity in the world outside of their conditions.
The program has been running off of donations from people who visit the ashram and are inspired to give. Then in the past year we received a few big donations like computers, laptops and an internationally recognized English curriculum for preschooler and young kids. On top of that, the children practice yoga, breathing skills and learn mantras to steady the mind.
These children continue to come with smiles on their faces and we are happy with what we have accomplished but can do so much more. We need funds to help complete a school structure that endure the harsh weather of India. We need to improve our open air room to a classroom with fans, visual aids and school supplies. We have a blueprint of plans and the hope that this can be completed before the hot weather begins in March.
Your donation goes directly into completion of the prem education school and funding the monthly tuition so the kids can stay in school and off the street. Together we can give them the chance to not only dream but succeed in learning English, computers and yoga. Jai Radhe.
