Help Prajwal recover from a gun-point robbery
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Rafael Contreras and I'm setting up this GoFundMe on behalf of my friend Prajwal Batala, a young man who I've met under the worst circumstances.
Here's the story...
On January 30th 2024, around 8:40 am PST, I was parking my car on Fillmore St, in front of the Wise Sons Jewish Deli restaurant when I spotted a bike helmet fly across the street...it belonged to Prajwal who was being assaulted by two other men with the purpose of attempting to rob his electric bike, which he uses to deliver food. I decided to intervene because I went through a similar situation a couple of months ago, and no one helped me. I yelled at the men to leave Prajwal alone, unbeknownst to the fact that they had a gun.
One of the two men was riding a scooter, and escaped the scene with Prajwal's phone, which he also uses for work and connecting with his family in Nepal. We were able to snatch the bike back, and we chased the other assaulter (who escaped by foot) through Geary St, not without having recorded them and the scooter's license plate.
We called the police, and filed a report but Prajwal looked so worried. He broke down and cried in front of me, asking what he could do now that he lost his phone (it's worth noting that he was unaware of how to use the 'Find my iPhone' feature or his iCloud credentials). He mentioned that he's been in the United States for five months, speaks very little English, and doing delivery is his only means for survival. Seeing him so desperate just broke my heart, and that's why I gave him my contact information after the police left, assuring him that I would find a way to help him with his situation so that he could go back to work.
We're working with a starting goal of $1500, which will be given personally to Prajwak in cash so he can replace his smartphone, get back to his work as a delivery person, and heal from this horrible experience.
Thank you in advance for all of your help, and please share with others.
