Help Portia bring "Duty to Listen" to life!

A parent's biggest fear is not being able to protect their child. A law-abiding citizen's biggest fear is being attacked by an individual who is supposed to protect them. "Duty to Listen" is a short film I wrote last year that addresses those fears, mirroring what we see too often in the news - a police officer blinded by Black skin and deafened by their own agenda. I'm terrified that a child like mine - with special needs - could easily be next and written off as a misunderstanding.

This story is necessary. Finally producing some of my work is long overdue, and I wanted to start with a project inspired by the person I love most - my daughter. Besides the often-inflexible schedule of single parenthood, one of the big factors that's held me back from producing an independent film is money. (Meanwhile, I'm paying these film school student loans!)

Your help will aid in many aspects of production, which is slated to begin early summer. You will literally help make one of my dreams come true and spread a message that is begging to be heard. Thank you and stay tuned for updates throughout the year!
