A parent's biggest fear is not being able to protect their child. A law-abiding citizen's biggest fear is being attacked by an individual who is supposed to protect them. "Duty to Listen" is a short film I wrote last year that addresses those fears, mirroring what we see too often in the news - a police officer blinded by Black skin and deafened by their own agenda. I'm terrified that a child like mine - with special needs - could easily be next and written off as a misunderstanding.
This story is necessary. Finally producing some of my work is long overdue, and I wanted to start with a project inspired by the person I love most - my daughter. Besides the often-inflexible schedule of single parenthood, one of the big factors that's held me back from producing an independent film is money. (Meanwhile, I'm paying these film school student loans!)
