Help Porter Pie Get the Care He Deserves

Our sweet Porter Pie (who is 5 years old) has been suffering with seizures for a little over 2 years. Recently, he had a very bad and scary episode. Saturday morning at 5:30, he had continuous seizures, so we took him to the emergency vet. They kept him overnight, and we were able to visit the next day (Sunday). He was somewhat aware because he gave me (his mama) kisses. He loves giving kisses. And usually, when you say his name or basically anything, he wags his cute little nubber . However, there was no nubber action that day.
Yesterday (Tuesday), I went to pick him up after he had had an MRI and Spinal Tap. Both showed edema and swelling in the brain. The neurologist sent me home with him, but I knew something wasn’t right. He came home and was doing circles around the house for 3 hours. During this time, I called, and they said it was because he’s been in the hospital. I disagreed but went along with it again. I then called again and said that he won’t stop circling. I even took him out to go potty, and he just circled. So they wanted me to bring him back in. My lovely neighbor helped me get him to the hospital again, and they admitted him, saying they were going to give him an IV of Mannitol (reduces brain swelling). While waiting for the doc, he did circles in the waiting room. He was so exhausted he kept falling over. I felt he was in good hands, so I left him there.
This morning at 8:30 am, I got a call, and I found out they didn’t give him the Mannitol but gave him a steroid, trazodone, and gabapentin. No hypertonic solution or Mannitol. I felt lost and waited for the neurologist to call me. When she FINALLY did, she said she won’t give it to him, and she wants him to come home under sedation and for us to keep him in his kennel and take him out every couple of hours to go potty. If he doesn’t improve in a week, we need to bring him back. NOW... I know a thing or two about healthcare… This didn’t jive with me, so I talked with my friend from college who is a vet, and she said Cornell is the best place to take him. I have already got the ball rolling to get him there asap. Problem is we will have to get an Airbnb and bring our other dog with us. Pay someone to come watch the cats… etc. I feel so guilty asking, but we need help to afford this. We have spent so much since Saturday morning we don’t have anything left. I applied for care credit but didn’t get much. I suppose I’m asking for help. I know Porter needs a second opinion, and Cornell has a whole team of doctors that work in neurology. We think this is the best second opinion we can get. If you can find it in your heart to help, Mikey and I really appreciate it. If you don’t… Please share. Porter Pie isn’t just a dog… he’s almost human! He loves everyone, and everyone loves him. To lose him would be more than tragic to us, and we want to make sure we give him every opportunity to be a happy and healthy pup again.
If for some reason we don’t use all the funds raised we will donate them to a no kill shelter.
Thank you.
