Help Porkchop Get Back on His Paws
Donation protected
If you’re from Charlottetown, chances are you’ve seen Porkchop around the Founders Hall Farmer's Market — the big, blocky, sweet-faced American Bulldog who proudly serves as the brand ambassador for Wagworthy dog treats, a local startup founded by my cousin, Hunter Kerr. Porkchop turns four on June 7th, and while we’d love to be celebrating with extra treats and belly rubs, we’re instead preparing for a major surgery.
At the end of April, Porkchop suffered a serious injury — a torn cranial cruciate ligament (CCL), which is basically the dog version of a torn ACL. This injury causes pain, swelling, and instability in the knee joint, making it difficult (and dangerous) for him to walk or play.
He’s scheduled for TPLO surgery (Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy) on May 31st at New Perth Animal Hospital. This is the gold-standard procedure for large, active dogs like Porkchop, with over a 90% success rate and much better long-term outcomes than other surgeries. Recovery will take a few months, but with the right care and treatment, Porkchop will be back to living his best life.
The cost for the surgery and post-op care is $5,000.
For a small business owner like Hunter, who’s always put the needs of his pup (and others!) first, this is a major financial hit. That’s why I offered to set up this fundraiser — to rally some support and help cover these medical expenses.
We know times are tough, and we’re grateful for anything — whether it’s a donation of any amount or simply sharing this page with others. Every little bit helps Porkchop get the care he needs.
Thank you so much for reading, donating, or sharing. Let’s get this big guy back on his feet!
