Hi, my name is Riki and I’m creating this GoFundMe on behalf of my dad, Scott. Pops, as he is lovingly referred to by his grandkids, is a prankster with a heart of gold.
In June of 2024, Pops' world was turned upside down when he was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, a type of cancer that forms in the plasma cells of bone marrow. I took my dad to the ER the Monday after Father's Day due to a fall. This was the third time in a year he had fallen down his front steps and been injured. He blamed a bum knee and a recent bout of sciatica, but in the X-rays, the doctors discovered the deeper issue: cancer. Since then, he’s been fighting this battle head-on, undergoing treatments, and trying his best to keep up with life.
But the road has been tough.
Despite his best efforts, Scott’s health continues to decline. He’s been unable to work and faced a long wait for disability assistance. During his good days, Pops was able to work part-time and put money towards his health insurance premiums. But after a rare complication due to a super combo of radiation and bone strengthener, he was completely unable to work or do most daily activities. Dad does have an amazing life partner, Jet, and while she has been working hard to pick up the slack, it is an uphill battle. Their savings has been drained, and now the mounting medical bills and day-to-day expenses are putting an overwhelming strain on his recovery. Cancer treatments are not only expensive—they also bring constant complications, and every day feels like a new challenge.
That’s why we’re asking for your help.
Donations will go directly toward helping Scott cover essential expenses, including:
Rent and car payments, to keep his home and get to treatment
Groceries, to ensure they have food during this difficult time
Food and Vet Care for their pets (including an adorable stray cat Pops built a cozy winter home for)
Parking for hospital visits (unfortunately, hospital parking isn’t covered by insurance)
Other emergency costs that come with battling cancer, from medications to unforeseen complications
Dad has always been the first to lend a hand and crack a joke, lighting up the room with his infectious spirit. Now, it’s our turn to be there for him. No donation is too small, and any support—whether financial, a kind word, or sharing this page—means the world to us.
Thank you for taking the time to read Scott's story. Your generosity will help ease the financial burden and allow him to focus on what truly matters: fighting this battle and spending time with his family.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Riki Lee and the entire family
