Help Poppy Walk Pain-Free Again
Donation protected
A few weeks ago, I came home and Poppy was limping out of the blue. I rushed her to the ER and X-rays were taken. There weren’t any signs of any breaks or fractures but the vet did note a possible luxating patella when performing a physical exam. We were told to monitor over the next week or so and we were sent home with pain meds.
Fast forward to yesterday. Poppy’s limp was worsening and it was happening more frequently so I made an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon/specialist.
He confirmed that Poppy definitely has a luxating patella on her back left leg and it’s currently grade 2 because of how often it’s happening and how easily it pops in and out.
He’s recommending surgery based on this fact and just for her overall quality of life. He typically takes a more conservative approach but he told me if she was his cat, he would have it done.
Apparently, this is so rare to happen in cats that he has not seen a case in 7-8 years (he’s been an orthopedic surgeon for the last 30+ years). He’s very confident and comes highly recommend.
I am attaching the surgical estimate down below. Thankfully, most will be covered but I need some help covering the rest. The recovery time is a minimum of 6-8 weeks but sometimes it can be 3-4 months long. Currently all up in the air and it will be for a while. I am waiting for a callback to schedule her surgery.
Thank you for reading and thank you for keeping us in your thoughts as we navigate this. ❤️
