Help Poppy Bloom: A Second Chance for a Rescued Stray

Hi everyone,

My name is Cyrus and I'm reaching out with a heavy heart but also with immense hope for a sweet, struggling dog I recently found. Just a few days ago in a busy industrial estate near my home, I encountered a stray dog who was clearly in desperate need of help. She was incredibly thin, her fur was matted, and it was evident she hadn't had a proper meal or loving touch in a very long time.

I couldn't just walk away. My heart broke seeing her in such a vulnerable state, and after carefully approaching her and offering her some food and water i was eventually able to gain her trust and bring her to safety.

I've decided to call her Poppy. Like the resilient flower, I believe she has the strength to bloom again with a little help and a lot of love.

From the moment I saw Poppy, it was clear her health was severely compromised.

She's incredibly malnourished, and a closer look revealed a number of concerning issues, particularly with her teeth. It's heartbreaking to imagine the pain she must be in just trying to eat.

I immediately took Poppy to the vet for a microchip check and initial assessment at Vet4Pets Crescent Link, and the news, while not entirely unexpected, confirms the urgent need for comprehensive medical care we also found she is approximately 8 years old and at 5.2kg she is around 4-5kg underweight.

She needs:

* Urgent Dental Work, including Extractions: Poppy's teeth are in a terrible state; many are rotten and causing her immense pain. She will need several extractions to alleviate her suffering and allow her to eat comfortably again.

* Full Health Check and Blood Work: To understand the full extent of her malnourishment and any underlying conditions, she needs a complete health check-up, including comprehensive blood tests. This will help the vet develop a tailored plan to get her back to full strength.

* Vaccinations and possible Parasite Treatment: As a stray, she's undoubtedly been exposed to various diseases and parasites that need to be addressed immediately to ensure her long-term health and prevent further complications.

* Nutritional Support: Beyond the immediate vet care, she'll need a specialized diet to help her gain weight safely and recover from prolonged malnourishment.

The estimated cost for these crucial initial vet bills is substantial, and as much as I want to give Poppy everything she needs, I can't do it alone with running a house with kids and another dog. I'm reaching out to this compassionate community for help.

Week 2 update and poppy is thriving so far. She now weighs 6.3kg meaning over 1kg has been gained which is great in a dog her size.

So far we've had lots of vet visits but this far all is good news apart from her te

eth which have been classed as a band C situation meaning they're very bad. She does have gum disease also but it's somewhat minor. Waiting on blood results this week and hopefully soon we can move onto the dental work (whilst under diagnosis check will be done to check her throat as she wheezes see video -->Poppy's wheeze)
