Two months ago, I began socializing the feral cats in my community and stumbled upon a small group of kittens. One of them, Pope, quickly stole my heart. He follows me everywhere: he watches me cook from his spot on the dining room chair, waits outside the bathroom door, and curls up beside me on the sofa while I read or watch TV. Even though he has lived outdoors with his little colony, it’s clear that Pope has chosen me as his person.
Today, Pope came to my door injured and crying for help. His left eye was bulging, and the emergency vet confirmed that it had ruptured. Thankfully, there are no signs of other head trauma, and the vet believes he has an excellent chance at a healthy life if his damaged eye is removed. They recommended immediate surgery, but the estimate was more than I could manage on my own. For now, Pope is on pain medication and antibiotics, but he must have his eye removed within the next 48 hours to prevent a dangerous infection.
This little soul’s life is so worth saving. After his surgery, Pope will need permanent care, and I am committed to adopting him and giving him a safe, loving home indoors. I don’t normally ask for help, but desperate times call for desperate measures. If my human community could find it in their heart to contribute to Pope’s surgery and recovery, I would be forever grateful. And if you’re unable to donate, simply sharing this fundraiser would mean so much and might reach someone who can. Thank you for helping give him the chance at the safe, happy life he deserves.
