On the night of Thursday, July 31, 2025, around 10:15 p.m., my beloved emotional support animal, Pop Pop, was viciously attacked by an unattended dog in the stairwell of my apartment building. That evening, I took Pop Pop outside for his regular nightly walk. When we returned, the elevators in my building were out of order, so we had to take the stairs. As I opened the stairwell door, an unleashed Akita/Husky mix suddenly rushed toward us from under the stairwell and attacked Pop Pop without any provocation. The attack was terrifying. Pop Pop screamed in pain while I tried desperately to fight the other dog away. I was not only frightened for my safety but completely heartbroken seeing my little one in danger. Despite my efforts, Pop Pop suffered multiple bite wounds before someone finally came to help, grabbing the attacking dog’s leash and leading it away. I quickly carried Pop Pop, bleeding and injured, back to my apartment. I gathered as much information as I could about the other dog, and immediately searched for the nearest 24-hour emergency veterinary hospital. I also contacted the police and animal control to report the incident en route.

Pop Pop’s injuries are serious and life-threatening. In addition to multiple bite wounds, he contracted a severe flesh-eating infection in his leg, which is potentially fatal if not treated aggressively. He has already undergone two surgeries and requires daily visits to the emergency veterinary hospital for wound care, bandage changes, and prescription medications to fight the infection. His care is critical and ongoing, without it, his life is in danger. The veterinary bills are overwhelming. The costs so far include: Emergency hospital care, two surgeries, daily professional wound treatment and bandage changes, and prescription medications. Any support will help Pop Pop continue receiving the urgent care he needs to survive and recover.
