Aloha friends, family, and community. We are asking for your help as an unexpected horrific event occurred last night on August 24th, 2025, leaving two people hospitalized with stab wounds. Our friend/family member, Pono, was stabbed 8 times following a brutal incident with an unknown male who showed up to a group gathering for a celebration of life for a dear friend. This unknown person started a verbal argument that quickly turned into a physical altercation and stabbed Pono repeatedly. He is suffering from 5 stab wounds in his stomach, 1 in his leg, and 2 stab wounds in his back. During this altercation, my sister-in-law, Indeya, tried to help stop them, unaware the other boy had a knife, and was stabbed in her right thigh.

Pono was rushed to the Pahoa fire station where the ambulance took him to the ER. He was suffering internal bleeding and was taken straight into surgery to stop the internal bleeding. He is still recovering from his surgery and will be hospitalized for a while. Indeya was taken by the ambulance in Pahoa town and also rushed to the ER in Hilo, where they discovered the knife just missed her artery in her thigh and chipped into her bone. She had to get stitches and is now home on a long road to recovery and has to use crutches to walk until she is healed.

This devastating event left all of our friends and family members in shock. They both almost lost their lives and have a long way ahead of them to recover. Any and every donation will be greatly appreciated in helping with medical bills and loss of wages for Pono and his aunty Kanoe, and Indeya and her mother Kyrie, as they have to take time off work to care for them on their journey to recovery.
