Help Paulita Rebuild After the Kerr County Floods
My mom, Paulita Rodriguez, was evacuated in the early morning hours of the flood by a kind neighbor out of her apartment off of G street. We’re incredibly grateful she made it out safely — but her apartment was severely damaged by over three feet of floodwater, and the entire complex has now been deemed unlivable.
My mom is medically disabled and lives on a fixed income. She has gone through several hardships in the last year-losing a home when her sister passed away unexpectedly and in September of 2024 she sustained a fall that caused a significant head injury that led her to spending 5 months in medical facilities for medical care and rehab. In February 2025, she was released and we were able to find her a new place to live that she could afford on her fixed income. Then the Kerr County flood happened and she is having to start over again. Though her rent was fully paid through the end of her lease through her disability payments, the only available unit the complex could offer her is in a sister property across town that has a higher rent cost and utility costs. Because of this sudden increase, she will now owe rent beyond her current budget for the upcoming months and is facing unexpected financial hardship. On top of this, she lost all of her belongings and furniture in the flood and will need help furnishing her new apartment.
We know that while the loss of her apartment is unfortunate, others experienced even greater heartbreak. We hold deep gratitude that she is alive and will have a roof over her head again. Our goal now is simply to help her rebuild and to relieve some of the burden and give her a fresh start after losing so much. Your generosity will not only cover additional rent and utility costs but also help her acquire essential furniture and belongings.
Any contribution, no matter the size, would mean the world to us. Thank you for your kindness, compassion, and support.
