For Polly:
This year we faced some incredibly difficult losses and challenges. Our lives have changed forever and none of it would’ve been possible to manage without Polly and her dedication to our family. Through the loss of a parent to taking on the care of a teenager and a new dog -Polly was there to support my family and I, emotionally and financially. Always smiling at me from across the room. Beaming with love for what we do have. Now that things are finally settling down, it’s time to show Polly that her sacrifices were not made in vain, that she deserves to feel secure with herself and supported by her friends and family.
If you know Polly, you know she's wanted this for a long time and that she's been trying to figure out what gender means to her, inside and out. Like many of us, the pandemic allowed her to take a step back and think about who she is without the distractions of what her employers and colleagues needed her to be. Finally, after many appointments, letters from therapists and questions from doctors, Polly has been approved to get gender-affirming top surgery. (If you’re unfamiliar with what that is, this website explains it pretty well: https://www.topsurgery.net/ )
We need to pay approximately $2000 for the surgery and $2300 to help with rent while Polly takes time off to recover. My teaching salary can help curb some costs but obviously not much with our other living expenses. Frankly, this is a conservative estimate for what we will need. Any extra funds beyond the initial $4,300 will be used for things like rent, bills and food.
Please consider donating even a small amount to help my partner feel more comfortable in her own body or sharing with your friends and family. We appreciate the support beyond words.
