I’m a woman of a certain age who has found myself with no savings and underemployed. My best friends, Grace—a two-year-old German shepherd—and Rufus, my nine-year-old pandemic buddy, give me peace and solace. I have a full-time, low-paying job that barely covers necessities. When emergencies come up, they throw me off course and put me into a hole that gets deeper and deeper, one I can’t climb out of. Last month, I had a horrible fall. It kept me from working full time. I was on a cane and looked like I had been beaten with a sock full of oranges. I need to have surgery on my rotator cuff but can’t afford to take off work. The pain is intense and prevents me from doing things like lifting dog food, wrangling the rambunctious Grace, and living life as I used to.
Grace and Rufus have been my constant companions and sources of comfort. Grace has been lethargic, barely eating, and clinging to me—behavior that is not normal for her. Rufus, who was my loyal pandemic buddy, is now 9 and also needs care. He’s a lovely old dog with a great personality, always bringing a smile to my face even on the hardest days. I’m worried about their health and want to make sure they get the attention they deserve. The money raised will help cover back rent, delinquent car notes, and complete examinations for both Grace and Rufus. These are the things that weigh on me every day, and your support would mean the world to us.
So many people are in need, and I’d appreciate any help you can offer. If you’re able to support us, I promise to pay it forward when I’m back on my feet. Thank you for reading our story and considering a donation. Your kindness will help us stay in our forever home and give Grace and Rufus the care they deserve.
