Help Political Artists Creating a Film that Inspires Change

I’m part of a political-artistic collective called PRA(V)DA, which believes that building a counterculture to the hegemonic capitalist culture is one of the most powerful ways to drive societal change. Our mission is to stand against capitalistic ideals that perpetuate inequality and suffering while fostering humanity, empathy, and justice through art.

So for us, this film isn’t just another project—it’s part of a bigger movement. Its powerful message is a call to action, an invitation to awaken empathy, and a challenge to rethink the way we see the world. Supporting this project means more than funding a film—it means amplifying voices that are often silenced and reshaping the narrative landscape to include perspectives that reflect the diversity of our society, because of the knowledge and understanding of how culture shapes society and the acknowledgement of the up most importance of this notion.

Our collective is dedicated to giving a platform to individuals—both in front of and behind the camera—who are too often excluded and marginalized by society. In an audiovisual landscape largely dominated by the perspectives of white, cishet men, we aim to prioritize gender-marginalized groups (women, nonbinary, trans, and intersex individuals) and people of color, empowering them and providing the necessary platform and resources to display their artistry and tell their stories.

As for me, I’m a Black trans-masculine migrant person at the beginning of my filmmaking career and currently an apprentice and employee at the International Film School Cologne. For this project, I’m taking on the roles of producer, director of photography, and editor, leading the charge to bring this film to life together with my comrade, friend, and incredible political activist and artist Talia Akkuş, who is the writer and director of this film. While the university provides equipment, filmmaking is inherently HELLA resources-intensive, and we urgently need additional resources to ensure the team can work under proper, ethical conditions.

Ich bin Teil eines politischen-künstlerischen Kollektivs namens PRA(V)DA, das davon überzeugt ist, dass die Schaffung einer Gegenkultur eine der mächtigsten Möglichkeiten ist, gesellschaftlichen Wandel voranzutreiben. Unsere Mission ist es, gegen kapitalistische Ideale zu stehen, die Ungleichheit und Leid verstärken, während wir Menschlichkeit, Empathie und Gerechtigkeit durch Kunst fördern.

Warum das wichtig ist:

Dieser Film ist nicht einfach nur ein weiteres Projekt – er ist eine Bewegung. Seine kraftvolle Botschaft ist ein Aufruf zum Handeln, eine Einladung, Empathie zu wecken, und eine Herausforderung, die Art und Weise, wie wir die Welt sehen, zu überdenken. Dieses Projekt zu unterstützen bedeutet mehr, als einen Film zu finanzieren – es bedeutet, Stimmen zu verstärken, die oft zum Schweigen gebracht werden, und die Erzähllandschaft neu zu gestalten, um Perspektiven einzubeziehen, die die Vielfalt unserer Gesellschaft widerspiegeln, weil wir verstehen, wie Kultur die Gesellschaft prägt und die Wichtigkeit dieser Erkenntnis anerkennen.

Unser Kollektiv hat sich der Aufgabe verschrieben, eine Plattform für Individuen zu schaffen – sowohl vor als auch hinter der Kamera – die in der Gesellschaft zu oft ausgeschlossen und marginalisiert werden. In einer audiovisuellen Landschaft, die größtenteils von den Perspektiven weißer, cis-heterosexueller Männer dominiert wird, setzen wir uns dafür ein, geschlechtlich marginalisierte Gruppen (Frauen, nichtbinäre, trans und intersexuelle Menschen) sowie People of Color zu priorisieren, sie zu stärken und ihnen die notwendige Plattform sowie Ressourcen zu bieten, um ihre Kunst zu präsentieren und ihre Geschichten zu erzählen.

Was mich betrifft, ich bin ein schwarzer, trans-masculiner Migrant am Anfang meiner Karriere als Filmemacher*in und derzeit Auszubildender und Mitarbeiter an der Internationalen Filmschule Köln. Für dieses Projekt übernehme ich die Rollen des Producers, Kameramanns und Editors und führe zusammen mit meiner Kameradin, Freundin und unglaublichen politischen Aktivistin und Künstlerin Talia Akkuş, die die Autorin und Regisseurin dieses Films ist, das Projekt an. Während die Universität das technische Equipment zur Verfügung stellt, ist Filmemachen von Natur aus extrem ressourcenintensiv, und wir benötigen dringend zusätzliche Mittel, um sicherzustellen, dass das Team unter fairen, ethischen Bedingungen arbeiten kann.

Formo parte de un colectivo político-artístico llamado PRA(V)DA, que cree que crear una contracultura es una de las formas más poderosas de generar un cambio social. Nuestra misión es oponernos a los ideales capitalistas que perpetúan la desigualdad y el sufrimiento, promoviendo la humanidad, la empatía y la justicia a través del arte.

Por qué es importante:

Esta película no es solo un proyecto más, es un movimiento. Su mensaje es un llamado a la acción, una invitación a despertar la empatía y un desafío para replantearnos cómo vemos el mundo. Apoyar este proyecto no es solo financiar una película, sino amplificar voces que suelen estar silenciadas y cambiar la narrativa para que incluya perspectivas que realmente reflejan la diversidad de nuestra sociedad. Todo esto tiene que ver con cómo la cultura moldea nuestra realidad y la importancia de reconocer y dar espacio a esa diversidad.

Nuestro colectivo se dedica a dar visibilidad a personas que, tanto delante como detrás de la cámara, son excluidas y marginadas por la sociedad. En un entorno audiovisual dominado mayoritariamente por las perspectivas de hombres cis-heterosexuales blancos, nuestro objetivo es priorizar a los grupos marginalizados por su género (mujeres, personas no binarias, trans e intersexuales) y a personas de color, empoderándoles y ofreciendo la plataforma y los recursos necesarios para que puedan mostrar su arte y contar sus historias.

En lo personal, soy una persona negra, trans-masculina y migrante que está empezando su carrera en el cine. Actualmente soy aprendiz y trabajo en la Escuela Internacional de Cine de Colonia. Para este proyecto, asumo los roles de productor, director de fotografía y editor, liderando junto a mi camarada, amiga e increíble activista política y artista Talia Akkuş, quien es la escritora y directora de la película. Aunque la universidad proporciona el equipo técnico, el cine es un proceso altamente intensivo en recursos, y necesitamos con urgencia financiación para garantizar que el equipo pueda trabajar en condiciones éticas y adecuadas.
