Help Police Torture Survivor Save His Home

Donation protected
We are writing to you on behalf of our friend, Darrell Cannon. Darrell is a Burge torture survivor who was released from prison in 2007 after a long legal battle that challenged his tortured confession. He spent 24 years in prison, including 9 in Tamms Supermax, for the wrongful conviction that resulted from his torture by Burge's henchmen. Darrell has been a vocal advocate in exposing that horrible chapter of racist police violence in Chicago, and was a leader in the successful campaign to obtain reparations  for 60 Chicago police torture survivors.

The pandemic has not been kind to Darrell, like many other people, and he is in difficult financial straits. He lives in a modest house that was purchased by his mother when he was young. His brother Claude, who was tragically murdered several years ago, lived in the house after their mother died while Darrell was in prison. Unfortunately, Claude failed to pay many of the bills for years, including the real estate taxes, which were sold. The house will be lost if Darrell is not able to redeem the back taxes before November 8, 2020. It will take $5,000 to redeem the taxes. If you are able to make any kind of contribution, it would be very greatly appreciated.

Flint Taylor, Pat Handlin and Ben Elson

All donated funds will be withdrawn by Pat Handlin, one of Darrell's attorneys, who will redeem the taxes at Darrell's request and disburse any balance to Darrell for use toward the other house related expenses.
