K9 Officer William Byrd, formerly of Ashe County Sheriff Department in North Carolina, gained the best work partner in 2019 after being promoted to this rank. Months and months of training and bonding exercises later, the dog (named “William”) and the officer were inseparable. Together, the two worked alongside each other every shift to maintain safety for the community. The dog developed an intense feeling of protection and loyalty for his handler and resided in his home. The sheriff's department agreed that William, the dog, may remain with the Byrd family if they are able to pay $5000 for him.
