Help Poe Walk – Knee Surgeries for Severe Medial Luxating Patellas
Hi everyone!
Meet Poe, a very sweet, loving, and playful munchkin who is a one-year-old Brussels Griffon pup.
Poe came into our lives when he was just 12 weeks old. He has quickly become the heart of our family. It was immediately clear that he was having trouble with his back legs. Despite his adorable, wagging tail at 100mph, bright soulful eyes, comical demeanor, and no fear, it was obvious that something just wasn’t right. We knew that Poe deserved the possibility for a happy quality life, we were determined to give him that chance. We knew that he would have the best likelihood with our loving care and a team of excellent doctors and staff.
We took Poe into our lives hoping that with care, attention and a loving environment, we could help him through whatever challenges he was facing. Unfortunately, over the course of his first year, Poe’s condition has progressively worsened. His back legs have become increasingly unstable with muscle atrophy, legs twisting, often slipping and falling, and he has a hunched posture.
Poe had a surgeon consultation on November first and has been diagnosed with Severe Medial Patellar Luxation in both rear legs, with malformed femurs and abnormal angulation and torsion rotation. He was likely born with knees shifted out of place and a misalignment of his legs. This condition was diagnosed as an extreme case for Poe and will likely require an additional Distal Femoral Osteotomy, a procedure used to correct limb deformity, cutting the femur and repositioning the bones to secure proper alignment. His luxating knees were given a Grade 4/4, the worst-case scenario.
Without surgery, little Poe will lose the ability to use his back legs in the future, his life will become a constant struggle filled with pain from osteoarthritis, twisting and mobility issues along with muscle atrophy. Poe’s condition is serious and requires X-rays and a CT scan which is scheduled for November 27th, 2024. If left untreated he will continue a painful deterioration, and eventually this will affect mobility long term. As a result of the constant pain his life will likely be cut short.
Poe is still a very young dog, we want him to have the opportunity to grow, play and experience all the things a little dog should do. Poe doesn’t know that he is disadvantaged. The surgeries that he needs are major, and they will realign knees and bones to restore proper function and relieve his pain, giving him the best opportunity to live a happy, active and very long life.
However, the X-rays, CT scan, and surgeries-one per leg, come with a very significant cost! That is why we are reaching out to you, our family, friends and community, for much needed help. Poe, the pup with the personality of five dogs combined, deserves the chance to walk, to play, to run and to be the joyful munchkin he is meant to be. But we can’t do this without your support. If you can join us on this important journey, we and especially Poe would be forever grateful!!
The surgeries that Poe needs, along with the X-rays, CT scan diagnostics, procedure, and post-surgery care, estimate totals up to $15,965.29 high end. While we have been able to cover some of the expenses so far, we still need additional funds to make sure Poe gets the care he urgently needs. Any contribution, big or small, will make a huge difference in Poe’s quality of life and will get him the surgeries that could change his future and prolong his life.
Poe deserves your help, he is more than just a dog. He is personality plus, a best friend, a snuggle buddy and my source of endless joy. He brings smiles and happiness to everyone that he meets! He is loving, loyal, smart and truly a gentle soul who deserves a possibility to live without pain. He is no ordinary dog, Poe lightens my burdens every day. We took him in because we knew he was “special” and with our love and care, he could have a future filled with happiness. Now, we are asking for your much needed help to make that future possible.
Please, please consider donating to Poe’s surgery fund and help us give him the chance to walk, run and play like a normal pup. Your support means the world to us and most importantly, it means more than the world to Poe.
Thank you, thank you, for taking the time to read Poe’s story and for considering helping him on this journey with a heartfelt donation and spreading the word to all your friends. All donations will be used for paying Poe’s bills and any donations that exceed the limit will be donated to another pet Go Fund Me or pet charity.
