Help Poe Heal After His Leg Amputation

Donation protected
My sweet, snuggly rapscallion Poe got himself into a horrific accident last week, and first thing in the morning on Feb 25, 2026 the poor little guy is going in for surgery to have his back leg amputated. This was entirely unexpected and his vet bills are growing by the minute, which is why we're here today.

Poe is a super social little guy who charms the pants off of any lady he meets, and he's nice to guys as long as they aren't trying to put the moves on his mama. I'm bereft, guilt-ridden, and my heart is aching that he has to go through all of this - but he is SUCH a trooper! His indomitable little spirit is shining through his pain. I'm praying he adapts easily to being a tripod, and I'm hoping with enough support, I'll be able to see him through that transition with all the love, snuggles, and accommodations that he needs. And maybe someday, I'll be able to forgive myself for this horrific accident happening on my watch. I'm not personally on the socials anymore, but Poe is on IG so we can share his recovery journey for anyone who is interested. Follow the little dude here

Like many cats who start out as stray kittens, Poe's journey has not been an easy one. Unfortunately, the last ~4 years with his first owner (my ex, who recently passed away) were fraught with neglect, instability, and abandonment because my ex was dealing with a terminal illness. I'm so happy to be reunited with Poe despite the sad circumstances, but it has not been an easy transition. Poe had very little training or oversight for four years, he was allowed to roam freely outdoors for most of the time, with almost no basic veterinary care. We've been playing a lot of catch up with his behavioral and physical health.

I promised Poe I would always protect him and he'd never have to worry about anything ever again. But even I couldn't deliver on that promise. Last Wednesday, while getting his feral ya-yas out climbing around the closet in my 125-year-old San Francisco Victorian, with built-in shelves and heavy hooks bolted into the wall, he slipped and caught his foot in one of those heavy hooks. His entire body weight was hanging by his little foot, and the screams he unleashed were... indescribable.

I raced to help him, but the scene was horrific, and I could see the damage was extensive. An immediate trip to the vet confirmed my worst fear - the severity of his injuries meant amputation. For the last 6 days, I've been keeping my little boy comfy and as pain-free as possible, but his road to recovery will finally begin on Feb 25th, after his surgical amputation.

All funds raised will go directly to Poe's vet bills, and any additional funds will be used to make accommodations for him post-surgery so that he can return to his spunky, energetic self - as safely as possible. Thank you for your generosity and please follow Poe on insta for updates as he recovers. My intent is to send everyone a personalized thank you message from Poe Poe, but it may take a few days for me to get those going. We are forever grateful. Hug your fur babies tight.
