Hi, my name is Meredith. At the end of October 2021, we were displaced by a negligent landlord who let our home get flooded with sewage for upwards of 10 days, filling our home with toxic fumes which made us both sick. We were forced to burn into our minimal savings and (ALL OF) our credit to live in hotels for a week and to afford food while we scrambled to secure a new place to rent. Luckily, we did secure a place! Unfortunately and very stressfully, said place is DOUBLE the total rent of our old home. I compensated by picking up extra shifts/ doing double shifts, which got us rent, bills, and groceries paid by the skin of our teeth, but became less than sustainable over the months. This month, I called out sick (during a pandemic), and faster than you can say Capitalist Nightmare, I was fired… for calling out sick. Now we need some community support affording our Rent, bills, and groceries (and maybe a credit card bill or two) and to keep our basic survival needs secure while we stabilize again. Please help! Not affording food and rent is legit filling me and my fiancé with a mind numbing and consuming panic. Anything you can contribute, helps!
