For the past couple months, we have been working to protect nesting sea turtles along Ghana’s coastline through night patrols, nest protection, community engagement, and education. Thanks to previous donations, we have been able to make real progress. Your support has helped us buy essential equipment such as buckets, cloth, headtorches, rechargeable batteries, pens, pencils, paint, and materials to build our hatchery including net, wood, and tarp. It has also helped cover fuel for patrols, basic food items, and even allowed us to buy back turtles when there was no other way to save them.
We are now ready to take an important next step. We urgently need more people on the beach to protect the nesting females and their eggs, and the best way to stop poaching is to bring poachers into the project itself. To do that we are now raising money to get them off the beach as poachers and onto the beach as protectors, we need to be able to pay them a fair income to replace what they would have earned from taking turtles. This will allow them to support their families without harming wildlife.
By hiring them directly, we can remove the financial pressure that drives poaching while training them as conservationists. They will help patrol beaches, protect nests, collect data, relocate at-risk nests, and support our hatchery. This approach creates long term, community led conservation and ensures that the people who know the beaches best can help safeguard the turtles that depend on them.
Your contribution directly protects the nesting turtles while providing fair employment and building trust within the community. Even a small donation helps us continue this work and move closer to a future where turtles and people can thrive together!
Thank you for believing in our project and for helping us create real change on the ground!
