Help Pluto Walk Again: Support Needed
Donation protected
Hi, I’m Arionne and this is my best friend, Pluto. I originally fostered Pluto as a puppy and ended up adopting him to give him a better life. Pluto is two years old and currently has complete immobility to walk. After a five-day inpatient hospitalization course, he was diagnosed with intervertebral disc disease. New to my knowledge, this is extremely common in his French Bulldog breed. He has tried and failed medical management with intravenous anti-inflammatory and muscle relaxants. Given the deformity of the spine compensating his vertebrae, he is unable to ambulate. As his condition progresses, this will eventually cause degeneration of his spine, leading to paralysis, weakness, and incontinence. Pluto is already incontinent and experiencing weakness at this time. At the hospital, I was recommended to have him undergo a hemi-laminectomy for management of IVDD. Pluto has a >90% chance of cure with surgical intervention and is expected to rehabilitate to normal function post operatively. Unbeknown to me, this surgery typically cost up to $16,000. After calling many veterinarians for potential estimates, I decided to seek Neurosurgical intervention at the UC Davis Veterinary Hospital in Davis, California. This is seven hour drive I am willing to make for my companion’s emergent care. My sweet Pluto boy is only two years old and can have the opportunity to have several more years of life with surgery. I am a pre-med full-time student with a part time job. He will need a mandatory spine MRI prior to undergoing surgery and this is included in the total. Pluto is a very healthy teenager (in dog years) and has not endured any trauma, bodily injury, or harm that led him to this. Unfortunately it is his inbred and selective breeding anatomy. This catastrophic event has impacted me tremendously. I am kindly asking for whatever you can offer to contribute to my companion and life-line.
