Help Our “Dream Treem” Plant 25,000 Trees Along Alberta’s Iron Horse Trail
A Vision for the Future
RRTS is launching an ambitious and meaningful initiative:
Planning, Planting & Maintaining 5000 trees per year and fruit-bearing shrubs over the next five years —bringing life, shade, beauty, and sustainability to the IronHorse Regional Trail and the 10 municipalities it connects.
Yet there is so much more we can do. As the trail winds through its breathtaking natural beauty, the opportunity to enhance, preserve, and grow this shared space is truly inspiring.
Why This Matters
This isn’t just about planting trees—it’s about building a lasting legacy.
Your support will help:
• Strengthen regional pride and community connection
• Enhance tourism and outdoor recreation experiences
• Create a welcoming, scenic “Lakeland” identity
• Improve wildlife habitat and environmental health
• Add beauty to staging areas and community green spaces
A Community Effort
This project is already underway, with initial support from the Trans Canada Trail Foundation. Year 1 seedlings have been secured, and planning for Year 2 is in motion.
Local volunteers and communities are stepping up—but we need your help to keep growing.
How You Can Help
We are raising $25,000 per year (toward the $100,000 annual project budget) to make this vision a reality.
Every dollar you give goes directly toward:
• Purchasing trees and shrubs
• Planting and maintaining
• Enhancing with berry-yielding plots
Any funds raised beyond our goal will be reinvested into further trail improvements and amenities.
Be Part of the Legacy
Together, we can transform the Iron Horse Trail into a greener, more vibrant future for Alberta.
Why it all matters
Since 1999, the Riverland Recreational Trail Society (RRTS) has with dedicated community spirit built and maintained Alberta’s 288 km Iron Horse Trail—a cherished recreational corridor connecting communities across the Lakeland region.
For generations, the trail has been a gathering place for friends, families, and neighbors—open and free for all to enjoy. It has welcomed visitors to our towns and recreational amenities, supporting local tourism and community growth along the way. Every enhancement you see today is the result of passionate volunteers, backed by a small number of dedicated trail-supporting organizations.
