Help PJ Husack Access Life-Saving Treatments

Paula-Jo (PJ) Husack--photo front and center, in the baseball cap (MA, LMFT CGP)--has been a wonderful friend to me and all the 'singing sisters' in our a cappella alt-chorus, Conspiracy of Venus, here in San Francisco, since its beginnings in 2008. In addition to groundbreaking work as a therapist (LeadLifeNow), she's been a supportive step parent, board member of charitable organizations like We Care (Alzheimers Support), a tireless pro-bono volunteer at Glide Memorial, She-Can Global, American Cancer Society, SFCityGuides, and a source of seemingly endless positive energy.

After a traffic accident in 2016, and despite diligently following a healthy diet and exercise program, PJ's chronic kidney disease began a descent into kidney failure: not yet in Stage 5 dialysis and total failure. Her GFR filtering number hit 29 (normal is 90 and above). PJ is currently exploring alternative treatments that may ultimately improve her numbers, avoiding the toxicity of a dialysis process. Ironically, the excellent care she's taken of herself (including becoming plant based), has not stabilized PJ's condition. A successful alternative medical intervention that her doctor found through True North Health Center has the potential to prevent her becoming too sick to continue working full time. Insurance covers only a fraction of her overall expenses.

PJ will need help on many fronts. While she is involved in the TNS study for three to four more weeks, her expenses continue to mount. The room cost (not covered by insurance) is over $5000. PJ's daily costs, including both personal and professional expenses (home and business rental, utilities, cell phone) is over $5500. Add to this that we're currently in January, when high medical deductibles apply. As you can imagine, this adds to the stress PJ is currently experiencing along with all her current health challenges.

Meanwhile even with all these challenges, PJ maintains her vibrancy, continuing to work and sing while spreading her superhuman energetic positivity.

In May, Conspiracy of Venus will perform our spring concert. We know PJ...she plans to bounce back healthier than before, so she can join us in song. With the intervention from True North Health Center, we know this has high probability.
