Help PJ During His Medical Recovery

Dear Family, Friends, and Colleagues,

Life took an unexpected turn for PJ Lewis and his family this past year. PJ, known for his unwavering kindness and dedication to helping others in our community, was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in September 2024. He courageously began bi-weekly chemotherapy treatments, determined to overcome this challenge.

By March 2025, with just one treatment left, PJ’s strength and optimism never wavered despite experiencing exhaustion, dehydration, and other side effects which were assumed to be natural consequences of his fight against cancer. However, on March 21st, PJ’s world shifted dramatically. With rapid shallow breathing, PJ collapsed while attempting to walk to the bathroom turning a simple task into a life-threatening emergency. His wife, Pamela, called 911. Paramedics arrived to find that PJ’s condition was far more critical than they anticipated. He was rushed to the hospital and placed on life support. PJ was diagnosed with Diabetic Keto Acidosis and fell into a Diabetic Coma. The discovery was staggering, chemotherapy had masked the onset of Diabetes insipidus and type 2 Diabetes; conditions that PJ had never been diagnosed with before.

His blood sugar skyrocketed to a dangerous level and for almost ten days, PJ clung to life in the ICU at Abbotsford Regional Hospital. After immense medical care, unwavering prayers, support from his loving family, and divine grace, PJ was taken off life support and began the slow process of healing.

PJ spent 4 more days in the hospital after being discharged from the ICU, and was finally able to return home on April 6th. Despite being blessed to be at home with his family, medical professionals estimate a recovery and rehabilitation time of at least 3 months. During this time, the Lewis family has been carrying a tremendous weight on their shoulders.

As a Registered Clinical and Canadian Certified Counsellor, PJ has always been a source of hope and healing for so many in our community. Unfortunately, taking on patients in his private practice has come to a halt due to his illness, creating financial challenges for the family. Meanwhile, Pamela juggles her role as an Educational Assistant, her studies for a Bachelor of Education, and the care of their children, all while supporting PJ.

This GoFundMe page has been set up to help ease the financial pressures they face, allowing PJ to focus fully on his recovery without the added stress of financial worry. Every contribution, no matter how small, will provide a lifeline to the Lewis family, helping them manage this challenging journey with hope.

This is your chance to show PJ and his family that they are not alone. Your generous support will mean the world to them during this time. Let’s come together as a community, lifting up the Lewis Family just as PJ has done for so many over the years.

With heartfelt gratitude,

The Lewis Family and Friends
