Dear Friends, Family, and Kind Strangers,
My name is Christine, and I'm reaching out with a heavy heart and an urgent plea for help for my beloved Border Collie and constant companion, Pirate. He's a true sweetheart and my very best friend, bringing immense joy and comfort to me and my friends every single day. Living alone on a fixed income, Pirate is more than just a pet; he's family, a vital source of companionship, and truly keeps me going.
Pirate's Urgent Need
Two weeks ago, Pirate suffered a terrifying fall. We rushed him to the vet, where we initially learned he had a concussion and some minor bone splinters. While we were incredibly relieved he survived, the vet warned us that other injuries might reveal themselves as he began to heal and move around.
Sadly, that prediction came true. Recently, we noticed Pirate still wouldn't put his front right paw down when walking. And when he did, especially while sitting, his paw was severely hyperextended. We immediately returned to the vet for further examination, hoping for good news.
The heartbreaking diagnosis is that the ligaments in Pirate's "wrist" (carpus) are severely broken. We've consulted with two veterinary specialists, and both have confirmed that the only way for Pirate to regain full use of his leg and walk comfortably on all four paws again is through a specialized surgery called Carpal Arthrodesis. This procedure involves surgically fusing the bones of his wrist, often using a prosthetic or plate, to permanently stabilize the joint.
Why This Surgery is Critical
This surgery isn't just about walking; it's about Pirate's entire quality of life. Without it, he'll continue to suffer from chronic pain, lameness, and instability, severely impacting his ability to move, play, and simply live as a happy, active dog. Watching him struggle breaks my heart, and I know he deserves a chance to be pain-free.
How You Can Help
The estimated cost for this essential surgery here in France is between €1,800 and €2,000. This includes the surgery itself, anesthesia, hospitalization, crucial post-operative medications, and necessary follow-up care. As I live on a fixed income of approximately €1,000 per month (handicapped allowance), this unexpected and significant expense is far beyond my means. I've already explored every possible avenue, including discussing payment plans with the vet clinic and researching local aid, but I urgently need your support to make this life-changing surgery a reality for Pirate.
Every single amount, no matter how small, will bring us closer to our goal and give Pirate the chance to walk without pain again. If you're unable to donate, please consider sharing this campaign with your network. Spreading the word is just as valuable and greatly appreciated.
We'll provide regular updates on Pirate's progress and his recovery journey here. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to read our story and for any help you can offer. Your kindness truly means the world to us.
With deepest gratitude,
Christine and Pirate
