Pippa, our beautiful mischievous little girl has done quite the number on herself.
While we were away over the weekend Pippa rebelled on her puppy sitters by getting into a box of Nurofen. Ibuprofen is unfortunately toxic to dogs. Her puppy sitters got her to the emergency vet that very day before she was showing any signs of vomiting or diarrhoea and research shows that the sooner they can get in for treatment, the better chance they have at a full recovery.
Pippa was put straight onto fluids which helps keep her very hydrated and also helps flush out any of the toxins in her little body. Generally this process takes between 24-48 hrs to see an improvement however Pippa ingested a fair few and is taking longer to recover. Her blood results have come in to show that she's very likely experiencing some internal bleeding in her gastrointestinal tract and her kidneys are still reliant on the fluids to help them function as they are not quite strong enough to work on their own as yet.
Pippa is a fighter though, she's a fit and healthy 2 year old (in exactly one months time). She's doing well on the outside, acting like her normal happy self however inside of Pippa her kidneys are in the fight of their life.
We are doing all that we can at this stage to ensure she has the best chance at recovery. Pippa is on 24hr vet monitoring, with 3 different stomach protecting meds, two daily blood tests, and she has been on IV fluids almost constantly since the little indiscretion to try and flush the toxins out. The Vet has advised that from Friday, if we haven't seen further improvement in her bloods she will be referred to a specialist for further options.
As you would imagine all of this comes at a substantial cost, at the moment daily the cost is around $750 while we expect that amount to increase shall she need specialist treatment.
Now 5 days into treatment we are beginning to feel the burden financially. We believe pet insurance will cover up to 80% of costs to the value of $6,000 but we are forecasting that her treatment is going beyond this amount. We are asking for some help to give Pippa the best chance at beating this as the Insurance will not come through until everything is completed. We know our beautiful girl has shared and given so much love and joy to so many people and that she is loved by others equally as much as we do. It is difficult to ask of this however we are desperate to give our little munchkin every chance there is.
With Christmas around the corner, it isn't quite feeling like the most wonderful time of the year unfortunately but any support you can offer would be HUGELY appreciated by us and Pippa to help her make a full recovery. All we want for the rest of all Christmas' is to get our baby home.
Any donation will go to helping treat Pippa in her immediate recovery or ongoing care. Even if we are able to raise enough to give our Pippy an extra day or two on fluids, this could potentially be the extra time she needs to make the difference between her coming home or not coming home.
We know that there's no way that this is our little girl's destiny. We are sure she is going to make a full recovery and go back to her happy joyous self. We just need to make sure we give her body the necessary time at the Vets to heal and mend and give her all the chances humanly possible.
Pippy sends her love and face licks to you all xxx
