Help Piper with her osteosarcoma cancer treatment
Donation protected
On the 13th March , we notice Piper has a lump on her left hind leg . It’s a big and hard lump .After seeing our regular vet on 18th March we were then referred to a specialist. On the 20th March , we took Piper to the Specialist, she was due to have her leg X-ray and possibly biopsy to find out what is the lump made out of .
After 2 hours , I had one of the most dreadful phone calls and one of the hardest decisions I had to make . We were told that the lump is eating away her bone and she is in so much pain , there is also no much structure is left in her leg , option is to have her leg amputated and send that away for biopsy ,if we don’t amputate her leg , it is most likely going to fracture anytime, it being so fragile and she will be in even more pain . however being this aggressive, it’s most likely osteosarcoma ( bone cancer ) we are dealing with . Vet also suggested to have CT scan done on her lung and abdomen while she is under anaesthetic, to see if it’s cancer , then whether this has spread or not .
We have taken on the advise to have piper’s leg amputated . This will hopefully eliminate the pain which is our primary concern.
On the 1st April , the result has came back , it is Bone cancer . Good news is , they don’t look like they have spread .
Piper is not even 7 yet and already had her fair share of major injury and surgeries . (forever thankful to all those who supported her with their donations, thoughts, and love). We do understand big breed like Newfie has shorter life span , but we thought we have a few more years left .
Going forward and after a consultation with an oncologist we have decided to proceed with Chemo with the mixture of holistic medicine approach to give Piper a good chance . This Will possibly extend her life by 12 months , but good quality of life . Without chemo , prognosis is roughly 4 months . Our decision is based on qualify of life and the comfort for Piper first and foremost and will continue to be always.
We are heart broken but also hopeful . For those who know piper know she is a strong and brave girl . She continues to make everyone smile , and give kisses to everyone she meets . She is handling her three legged life like a pro.
If you’re in a position to do so, please consider contributing to this page to help Piper and her family to extend their quality of life together.
All funding are to go toward piper holistic medicine and her chemo treatment and the amputation surgery she had . We are also hoping to get her a dog pram one that is big enough for adventures so she can see more of this world before she goes to the rainbow bridge .
Every contribution, no matter the size, will be greatly appreciated.
Love Piper and her Family
