My sweet 7-year-old Miniature Schnauzer, Piper, has had a life-altering situation occur recently and suddenly. These symptoms and issues occurred over a 5-day timespan. One day she was up and walking, and the next, she’s completely unable to walk or stand and is practically paralyzed. It started a few days ago with a hoarse bark like she had lost her voice. It then progressed to stumbling and staggering while walking, to full-on face planting into the ground. By the next morning, she couldn’t walk or stand at all and was very weak.
We took her to a family vet who tried a variety of tests under the sun and really gave it his all. However, he eventually let us know he was very confused and stumped as to how all of this could be. He sent us to another clinic, which was an emergency clinic. However, they also did not have the equipment or the diagnostic tests to confirm any neurological issues. We kept hearing, “this is a very complex case.” Which was very discouraging! Therefore, they sent us to a place 1 hour and 30 minutes away. We arrived, and at that point, her breathing was already labored, and there was a possibility she would not survive. However, we are trying to give her the best chance she has at overcoming this! The cost of this is not cheap and is very expensive.
I truly believe she still has life left in her and that these vets and neurologists will get to
the bottom of all of this! She currently is admitted to the emergency animal specialist hospital with hopes that tomorrow morning comes with some good news, a diagnosis and treatment plan! I will not give up on her. We just want answers and for her to get better and come home. If there’s anything we need most right now, it’s prayers and lots of them!
I ask that if you find it in the kindness of your heart to donate, we would truly and sincerely appreciate it from the bottom of our hearts. However, if you cannot, we understand wholeheartedly and we just ask that you lift us, the doctors/vet techs, and Piper up in prayers.
