My cat Piper is very sick, and I’m reaching out for help during one of the hardest times I’ve faced as a pet parent. Piper became suddenly ill, and despite extensive testing, the vets have not been able to give a definitive diagnosis. Her lab results are all over the place—her PH is low, her potassium is dangerously high, and she has a bladder stone that may need surgery. The critical care doctor couldn’t even explain everything they were seeing. Even though Piper has been eating and drinking normally, cats are experts at hiding illness, and the vet said they wouldn’t have guessed how sick she was until the lab results came back.

Right now, Piper is being treated with antibiotics, insulin, calcium, and fluids, and she needs to stay at the vet for at least 24 hours. There’s a chance she may need to see a specialist in the Twin Cities, but she needs to stabilize first. The costs are overwhelming—I’ve already maxed out my Care Credit card, used my car payment, and pulled together everything I could to cover the initial vet bill. The final amount for her stay is expected to be much higher, especially if she needs surgery or specialist care.
