Piper is my tiny 7 year old Pomeranian. Over the last few days I noticed that she was not breathing normally. She started coughing and gagging, seemed weaker than usual, and today her breathing became scary enough that I rushed her to the vet. The doctors are currently treating her for suspected congestive heart failure and fluid in her lungs. She is also showing neurological symptoms that the doctors are concerned about, and that has made this even more frightening.
Piper needs to be transferred to an emergency vet for continued stabilization, oxygen support, additional testing, hospitalization, and potentially advanced imaging like a CT or MRI. I have been quoted $4,500 for stabilization and treatment of the suspected heart failure, with costs potentially reaching $8,000 or more depending on the level of emergency and neurological care she needs. I hate asking for help, but I cannot imagine making decisions about Piper’s care based only on what I can afford. She is only 7, she is responding to treatment, and I want to give my tiny girl every reasonable chance to stabilize, come home, and have more good years with us. If you are able to donate anything toward Piper’s emergency veterinary care, I would be incredibly grateful.
