Help Piper Fight Severe Crohn's and Infections

Hello, my name is Brittany but I am setting up this fundraiser for my friend, Toni. Here is what she has written to you guys:

Hey everyone.

We’ve been hospitalized for over two weeks now. What we originally thought was Ulcerative Colitis has turned out to be Crohns. Not necessarily a misdiagnosis but Piper is a very special case. She has been sick with C diff. and also has had Salmonella. For anyone who’s unaware this is what it is.

“Clostridioides difficile is a bacterium that causes an infection of the colon, the longest part of the large intestine. Symptoms can range from diarrhea to life-threatening damage to the colon. The bacterium is often called C. difficile or C. diff.”

It has taken over her body. The medicines normally treated for this are NOT working. She is NOT okay. Her body is extremely weak. She has not been able to sleep. I am taking full care of her. From head to toe. She’s very sick. Her insides are so incredibly inflamed she has no comfort. Her stomach has expanded out because of her bladder. They had to put a catheter in to help drain it but then had to remove it due to fear of infection because of what’s going on with her bowels. They are going to be inserting a PICC line today. A PICC line is “A peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC line) is a thin, flexible tube that is inserted into a vein in the upper arm and threaded into a larger vein in the chest, known as the superior vena cava.”

She’s been very unresponsive to the medications. They’ve been working with Adult GI and have to take routes they do not have to take with pediatric patients. Piper is the first of her kind that doctors and stuff have had to do specific things with because her situation is rare and not normal.

She also now has a megacolon. “Megacolon is a condition where the colon becomes abnormally large and dilated, leading to severe constipation and other digestive problems.”

They have already notified surgery and ICU. As they are VERY closely monitoring her.
They have her on a VERY invasive treatment plan. They’ve exhausted pediatric treatments.

Surgery had to happen in order to have “life saving measures” taken. We got news that her intestines have fused to her bladder; a fistula.
“A fistula is an abnormal tunnel-like passage that connects two body parts that should not be connected. It can form between organs, blood vessels, or other tissues.”
With this being mentioned ^ this means (as gross as it is because it’s not her fault….) she’s literally peeing out shit. She has some serious infections going on and this is needed to make sure nothing happens to her. As she has had no positive response to treatment plans. Her life is on the line currently. She also has gotten a blood transfusion on top of it. Her hemoglobin cannot stabilize itself right now, keeps dropping.
She now has an ileaostomy back attached to her body. We are not in the clear yet. We really need helpt to stay afloat. We have zero expectations of leaving anytime soon.
