Hi, my name is Laura, and I’m asking for help for my 9-year-old dog, Piper.
Piper has been diagnosed with ehrlichiosis, a serious tick-borne disease that attacks the immune system. In her case, it has caused dangerously low platelets, severe anemia, and ongoing complications that may be chronic.
She has also developed serve edema which was originally thought to be vasculitis and is causing painful swelling in her legs, feet, belly and face. Some days the swelling improves. Other days it flares and has been more consistently bad as of lately. We’ve been working closely with our regular vet for the past two months, adjusting medications and monitoring her bloodwork constantly. But we’ve reached a point where she needs more advanced care.
Our vet believes the next step is seeing a specialist to better manage her immune complications and prevent this from becoming life-threatening. That could mean more extensive diagnostics, immune therapy, and possibly even blood transfusions if her anemia worsens. This is where the financial burden becomes overwhelming.
A good amount of debt has already been spent to stabilize her through emergency visits, testing, and medications. We are committed to continuing her care, but specialist treatment and advanced interventions are significantly more expensive and we simply don’t have the funds to confidently move forward without help.
The hardest part is that Piper is still fighting. She still cuddles. She still perks up for treat and love. She still has that goofy and quirky personality that makes everyone love her. She is not ready to give up and we are not ready to give up on her.
Your support would go directly toward:
• Specialist consultations
• Advanced bloodwork and diagnostics
• Ongoing medication management
• Potential emergency treatments such as transfusions
This is not the end for her. With the right care, she has a real chance to stabilize and live comfortably. We just need help getting her there.
If you’re able to donate, it would mean everything. If not, sharing this page helps more than you know.
Thank you for taking the time to read Piper’s story and for helping us fight for her.
