I took the day off to explore Espada Park, but I never made it.

As I was climbing the last hill before entering the park, I noticed a dog start to chase me. I slowed down, risking getting bit, but I had to see what she was all about. She ran up to me, licked my foot, and just stared at me. Poor thing was skinny, covered in hotspots and fleas.

It was hot as hell with no shelter nearby. I watched her try to eat a thorny cactus.

Eventually, I called 311 to have her picked up, but in San Antonio, there are loose dogs everywhere, every day. The thought of Animal Services not picking her up or her ending up in a kill shelter broke my heart. So I took another risk, picked her up, and hoisted her onto my messenger bag. She went limp, as if surrendering, and off we went. Halfway on my bag, halfway on my lap, with her paws on my handle bars, we rode all the way home together. I'd like to think she enjoyed the ride.

Now that she's safe, I want to give Pinky, who is about five years old, the care she desperately needs. She needs a kennel, bed, harness, collar, food, medication, toys, and other things to help her recover and feel at home. Any support will help Pinky get the second chance she deserves.
